Here’s a little sneak peak at a newborn session I recently photographed. Sweet little E was 4 weeks old when I photographed these portraits. Newborn portraits are among my favorite sessions; what is more endearing and lovable than a newborn baby?? Excited to share more portraits from this session!

Classy Baby Bump Portraits | Natural Light and Black and White Maternity Photography | Solana Beach Photographer

I truly commend momma’s-to-be who wish to document their growing baby bumps. Your body changes so much during pregnancy– creating a new beautiful life — and many women realize this is an amazing time to remember. As a photographer, it’s important to be sensitive to clients who are expecting; to their needs and possible posing restrictions. I don’t know if it’s because I’m used to being behind a camera, but I do not enjoy getting my portrait taken when I’m pregnant!! However, I don’t want to regret having the portraits done; as I think it’s such an incredible memory and so important to document. Because I’m sensitive to the way moms-to-be feel, I always make sure they are comfortable so their portraits look natural, beautiful and classic.

2 Year Old Toddler Portraits | San Diego Outdoor Natural Light Photographer | Solana Beach, CA

In this immediacy-obsessed world we live in, my iPhone becomes my easy, accessible, go-to camera, even though I’m a professional photographer! I have to make a conscious effort to bring out my pro camera and photograph my daughter at least every month. DSLRs (digital single lens reflex cameras like my Canon 5D Mark II) is just so bulky and heavy. It’s not very practical to carry around all the time as a mother, or I would! I believe there will be a huge shift in the professional camera world in the next few years. It’s already starting with mirrorless cameras like the Sony a7 which are so much more compact and lighter, but still has a full-frame sensor. These huge cameras will look like dinosaurs in the near future, I’m convinced! I’m actually looking to sell some of my glass and make the switch soon so I can have one of these smaller, professional qualities cameras more often.

Until then, I’ll have to use my awesome little Leica point and shoot and my iPhone 🙂

I took my now 26 month old daughter out in our neighborhood for our impromptu photo shoot… She’s developing such a personality these days and I have the opportunity to use all my special toddler tricks to get her to pose and smile. This age is so fun!! Every day she surprises me with things she says and does.
